A Temple priest is thrown to the floor as the Jerusalem Temple sways and shakes. The skies blacken with storm clouds and rain extinguishes the fire of the great altar. The frightened priest watches in horror as the great curtain separating the Holy of Holies is torn from top to bottom. On the Damascus Road at a hill called Golgotha three men hang on Roman crosses of crucifixion. Why does God shake the very foundations of His temple?
Fifty days later the Holy Spirit descends in power on the young priest named Ezra and a young woman, Mariam who has taken the Nazarite oath. Ezra and Mariam are baptized into a new faith. How does a temple priest live for Jesus? How does he reconcile the Law and temple sacrifice, with his new faith? Has Jesus established a new priesthood?
A story of faith, revelation and love that takes root in the early church in a time of upheaval, injustice, instability and persecution.

The Oak of Weeping: One of my favorite stories in the Old Testament is without doubt the epic narration of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as the fathers of a nation under the Jewish God. All the more curious was I about how David Martyn would tell it to a modern-minded audience. In fact, his language, though modern, stays uniquely solemn and doesn't make you forget that you are reading a story out of a book of faith. Yet the dialogues, the detailed descriptions of living conditions, and the historical angles he brings up make the narration wonderfully vivid and at no time boring. Theologians will appreciate how he weaves the connection to the New Testament, and how the message of "love whom God loves," from the Old resounds in a Christian way. Martyn's analysis of characters is insightful and draws protagonists wonderfully colorful. As they strive for a balance between earthly goals and the persistence in the face of God, they produce awful flaws as well as self-denial, crime and sacrifice - just as the Bible tells it, but in a way that makes them more palpable. A great novel about the search for love on earth as well as in spirit.
An anthology of 16 short stories of Biblical and historical characters who faced overwhelming obstacles, persecution, or despair. Stories that will encourage and inspire. Written from a Christian perspective, each story proclaims the hope that is within us--the power of faith and the grace of God.

Like any who is awed by God’s creation can attest, God reveals Himself and sets us on a journey of discovery that brings us by the revelation of God’s Word, to the very heart of God. David’s love of Scripture, has been strengthened by years of home Bible Study groups which brought insight on Bible passages and confirmation of God working in the lives of His people. Hours of sitting with brothers and sisters pouring over Scripture helped put flesh on the bones and blood in the veins of the men and women of the Bible. Real people who struggled with sin and doubt. Men who failed God time and again, yet by the grace of God were victorious and today wear the victor’s crown. It is David’s hope that his stories awaken the seed of revelation God planted in the reader’s heart, provides a fresh love for the fathers of our faith and brings hope to a new generation.
Biblical fiction allows David to explore how the historical Bible characters may have reacted as God stepped into their lives, made Himself known and changed them forever. Where the Bible speaks David does his best to maintain the literal record. Fiction helps to fill in the blanks and incorporate the lessons and interpretations we find in New Testament writings to preserve the unity of God's Word and the fulfilment of His revelation.
Beginning January 2020, David Martyn will be available to sign and sell books at Kitsap Mall, Silverdale Washington, the second Saturday of each month
